Letter to Enquirers

London Lay Dominican Fraternity

Thank you for your enquiry.

We are a group of approximately 30 men and women, both single and married, who follow the Rule of the Laity of the Order of St. Dominic.

We meet on the second Sunday of every month: (other than August) at St. Dominic’s Priory; Southampton Rd., Haverstock Hill. NW5 4LB. Nearest Tube Stations are: Belsize Park/Chalk Farm, Northern Line. A map can be found here

The Fraternity meeting starts at 12 o’clock with Holy Mass in the Priory Church; we then adjourn to Blackfriars’ Hall, where we recite a decade of the Rosary for all Lay fraternities.

Then we have our packed lunch, during which there is an hour of formation for enquirers and novices.

This is followed by a business meeting and an hour of study, which we lead in turn.

The day ends with chanted Evening Prayer.

After an enquiry period, one is admitted to the Order during our Fraternity “Open Day”, held on the second Sunday in April once a candidate has been interviewed and approved by Council.

The following May, one makes Temporary Profession for 3 Years; if the required number of formation sessions are completed, then Final Profession takes place having once again been interviewed and approved by Council.

Profession is made to the President during Mass in the Priory Church, at which family and friends may be invited. This is witnessed by the Master of the Order’s Representative, our Spiritual Advisor.

I hope this will be of some help in your decision to try your vocation as part of the world wide Dominican Family.

NB All enquirers are required to produce a letter from a sponsor (Parish Priest, Religious or prominent member of the Parish who can vouch for the candidates character, Mass attendance and standing as a practicing Roman Catholic)

If you wish to contact the Fraternity, please leave your details in the comment box below (comments will not be published) and we will pass them on.
