From the Curia:
From Sr. Marie Thomas, president of the association of Dominican monasteries in Japan:
We are publishing an e-mail Fr. Brian Pierce, Promoter General of the Nuns, received on March 12, just one day after the terrible earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan and shocked the world.
Dear Fr. Brian,
Thank you very much for your sympathy e-mail.
The earthquake and the tsunami were a catastrophe indeed. Now (11:30 a.m.) the dead persons surpass 800 and missing persons about 800. Probably the number will increase.
We have tried to telephone the nuns in Morioka and Bandai again and again, but we can’t get through to them. According to the news, every lifeline stopped in both areas.
Fortunately in Seto, we felt only the severe earthquake. Some of us went out, some felt nothing. However the warning of the aftershock is given to all over Japan.
At this point we cannot get news about the situation of the monasteries of Morioka and Bandai.
Please continue to pray for us and the Japanese people.
Thank you again.
