Pope presents St Catherine of Siena as model for laity

In yesterday’s General Audience Pope Benedict XVI spoke about St Catherine of Siena’s Christocentric faith and her spiritual maternity, holding her up as an example to the lay faithful. St Catherine was a Dominican tertiary who was born in Siena in 1347 and died in Rome in 1380. She is a particularly important figure for lay Dominicans.

The full text of the Holy Father’s address can be found at Zenit.

Her letters can be found for free at Project Guttenberg and there is a really readable book about her life by the Nobel prize winning novelist Sigrid Undset.
